This manga skillfully explains real-life issues, demonstrating clearly how economically disadvantaged individuals become easy targets. In my personal experience, I've had friends who got caught up in multi-level marketing schemes, accumulated debts, and eventually lost their friendships. As a university student at the time, I often wondered, "Why do people fall for these schemes so easily?" Reading "Kamo no Negi ni wa Doku ga Aru" provided clear insights—such as the Halo effect and anchoring bias—into how scammers exploit psychological vulnerabilities to deceive their victims. While the subject matter resembles darker series like "Kurosagi," the eccentric and extremely wealthy protagonist, Professor Kamo, ensures the story remains engaging without leaving readers with an unpleasant aftertaste. However, the plot follows a consistent formula: tackling current societal problems using behavioral economics and psychology to deliver justice. As a consequence, the series faces a potential future challenge when it exhausts its psychological insights. It may then pivot towards more prominent adversaries such as religious groups or corrupt government officials, similar to series like "Uramiya Honpo." Although the plot structure follows this predictable path, the manga intriguingly leaves some critical mysteries unresolved, such as the source of Professor Kamo's wealth and his deep motivation to target fraudsters. Future explorations of Kamo's backstory promise to add significant depth to the series. Another standout element of the manga is Misaki Natori, a university student who initially appears as a victim in the first chapter. After Professor Kamo helps her, she continues to feature prominently, effectively representing the reader’s perspective. Her character provides relatability, emphasizing the psychological vulnerabilities and thereby amplifying Professor Kamo's impactful insights.
