Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi! Synopsis

Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi! is a comedy and hot-blooded action manga starring Takeshi, a first-grade elementary school student with an absurd level of vitality and an unusually hairy body. Despite his age, Takeshi takes his late father Hiroshi’s dying words—"Become the greatest leader!"—to heart. With his unique sense of justice and unmatched energy, he solves problems in his class and community as a true “leader.” Set at Poppo Elementary School, the story follows Takeshi as he causes chaos and growth alongside a cast of quirky friends and rivals. As the series progresses, the scale expands beyond schoolyard antics to include rival leaders from other schools, delinquent gangs, and even demons from the underworld, all of whom are drawn into Takeshi’s wild adventures. While the early chapters focus on gag-filled school life, the latter half of the manga incorporates intense fighting arcs and emotional storylines. Through battles, hardships, and moments of heartfelt connection, the series explores themes of friendship, trust, and what it truly means to be a leader. With its over-the-top, passionate protagonist and balance of humor and heartfelt drama, Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi! delivers a hilarious yet inspiring story that dares to ask, “What does it really mean to lead?”

Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi! Editorial Reviews

A Crazy Gag Manga

Today’s featured manga is Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi!, a wild and eccentric series starring Takeshi, a born leader who had a full-grown beard from birth. From the moment he was born—already bearded and walking—Takeshi was told by his late father to become “a leader of the people.” And so begins this absurd gag-and-battle manga about a child with the strength and spirit of a grown man. Though the premise may sound ridiculous, Leader Takeshi has amassed a loyal cult following in Japan. The manga was created by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, who would later go on to write the hit series Toriko. The tone of Leader Takeshi is about 90% gag, 10% serious, with the author even inserting himself into the story for chaotic meta-humor. But when the serious arcs do appear, the shift is dramatic—the comedy gives way to heated battles full of emotion and intensity. This contrast is what makes Leader Takeshi so unique: the ability to be utterly silly one moment, and dead serious the next. Shimabukuro’s artwork is also top-notch, especially in the action scenes—a talent that carried over into Toriko. Another highlight of the series is its cast of wildly distinctive characters. From Gonzo, a boss-like rival figure, to Bonchuu, the strongest man who failed to earn his leader badge alongside Takeshi, to Tony, the greatest leader of all time—each character adds their own brand of chaos and heart to the story. Although the manga was temporarily suspended due to personal issues involving the author, it eventually resumed and concluded with a proper ending. That said, Leader Takeshi might not appeal to those who prefer more serious, action-driven series like Demon Slayer. But if you enjoy manga that blends wacky humor with occasional heartfelt moments—like Gintama—then Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi! is absolutely worth checking out.
