The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses
Synopsis
The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses is a romantic comedy set in Familia, an old seaside café left behind by the protagonist's late grandmother. The story follows Hayato Kasukabe, a brilliant student who passed the entrance exam to the University of Tokyo. After a falling out with his grandmother, he returns to his hometown for the first time in three years—only to learn of her passing. His original plan is to tear down the café and turn the property into a parking lot. However, to his surprise, five beautiful and eccentric young women are already living there, claiming to be his grandmother’s “family.” Each of these girls carries personal baggage or painful memories and was taken in by the grandmother, who gave them a home and purpose at Familia. At first, Hayato constantly clashes with them, but as he learns more about their stories and the kindness of his late grandmother, he decides to reopen and rebuild the café. From running the business and dealing with rival cafés to navigating romantic entanglements among the five heroines, Hayato and the girls develop a deep, almost familial bond as they face daily chaos and heartfelt moments together. Blending cheeky humor, pop culture parodies, romantic tension, and touching themes of found family, The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses is a vibrant, feel-good story filled with laughs, charm, and just the right amount of spice.

Who Will He Marry?” — A Mystery Romance Harem Manga
Today’s featured manga is The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses, brought to us by veteran romance-harem manga artist Kouji Seo. This series follows Hayato, a university student, as he works to revive a seaside café called “Familia” under one roof with five unique and charming girls. Much like the massively popular The Quintessential Quintuplets, this manga incorporates glimpses of the future—hinting that Hayato will eventually marry one of the five girls, though her identity remains unknown. This clever narrative device, which kept readers hooked in The Quintessential Quintuplets, plays a key role in this story as well. In many older harem romance manga, the “main heroine” was clear from the start, so readers often knew who would or wouldn’t end up with the protagonist. But thanks to this “mystery bride” setup, readers can now genuinely root for their favorite character until the very end. That’s the biggest appeal of The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses—you get to cheer on the girl you love most. (For the record, my personal favorite is Akane, haha.) One major difference between this and The Quintessential Quintuplets is in the character visuals. In Quintuplets, the girls shared a base design due to being sisters, whereas here, each heroine differs significantly in looks, age, and personality—adding more variety and uniqueness to the cast. To be honest, some parts of the story follow familiar romance tropes, but Kouji Seo’s expertise in the genre shines through. He strikes a great balance between compelling storytelling and the occasional spicy joke or slightly risqué moment—keeping readers entertained throughout. If you enjoyed The Quintessential Quintuplets (anime or manga), this series is a must-read. Try to guess who Hayato will end up marrying as the story unfolds—and don’t forget, Season 2 of the anime is also on the way!

I read over 3,000 manga every year across all categories. One of my special skills is listening to the manga others have read and recommending titles that perfectly match their tastes. I’m also a huge anime-loving otaku.
